• What inspires FLIPSIDE music? :  (Kage)
• Our music is mostly inspired by our environment, we grew up in Soweto so the life style and the people around us contributes, me and bless grew watching our oldest brothers rap and dress like hip-hop heads , that’s where the seeds were sown. Lwazi was drawn in by the growing trend, he discovered himself caught up in the vibe of rappers and hype of hip hop culture   
• The name FLIPSIDE, how did it come about and what does it mean? (bless)
• When we started back in 2003, everyone was on that Canibus, Talibkweli, and Immortal Technique vibe so when we came in we were big fans of your Lord Tariq and Peter Guns, Jaddakiss, Cassidy, Method Man, Big L and Joe Budden so we kind of adapted to the commercial flow and style of rapping. Kage came up to me this one morning and said, how about we call ourselves Flipside because we are very different from the rest of the rappers we were rolling with or going up against
• Besides spending your time in the studio, what do you guys do for fun? (lwazi)
• We don’t do much, we are not big on partying so we will probably chill in the hood, plug in the PlayStation,  get a movie or series and buy snacks and beverages.
• How do the new songs differ from the older material? :
• We are more precise compared to when we started, we can adapt to different styles of beats or musical genres so we can experiment and see what works but we still trying to get our very own signature sound.
• Can we expect any album this year (2013)? Any tours or gigs lined up this year? :
• For now we still working on promoting our digital mixtape “First Impression” we managed to shoot two videos for our singles #HABASHWE  and #Kasi (woza) as for gigs and tours will keep the supporters posted because we are currently negotiating a PR deal with Player Unlimited.
• What’s FLIPSIDE life motto? :
• Work smart and play smart
• Words of advice would you give to the young upcoming artists? :
• Love, respect, eat and pray for what you do that is one of the ways you will be able to produce quality results

·        What inspires 985 music? :

We’ve always been inspired by Soweto and its culture the people and trends, we grew up listening to Hip Hop and Kwaito and u can hear the influence in the music, we also draw inspiration from our own life experiences.

·        Besides hip hop which other genremusic would you guys be composing? : we would deffinitely be composing kwaito,jazz or Rock although I must say we  already started on thekwaito. We have a great passion for music as a whole so we don’t put a limit on what we can or cannot do.

·        The name 985, how did it come about and what does it mean?:

985 is da landline area code for Diepkloof where we were born and raised, we are very proud of our neighborhood so we wanted to make sure everyone knows that.

·        Besides spending your time in the studio, what do you guys do for fun?: When we not painting the town red we spend a lot of time with our families also watching movies, playing video games , paint balling and we spend some time at the shooting range.

·        How do the new songs differ from the older material? :

with every album we grow because we experience new things we learn more and we gain experience, we’ve gained experience  in making songs it’s not just about rapping like we used to do we learned to work on hooks 

choruses bridges pre choruses etc , we focus more on building the song but also keeping it fun.

·        Can we expect any album this year (2013)? Any tours or gigs lined up this year? 

We are surely  releasing an album this year we do not have a date just yet we still dealing with the business side of things , in terms of tours we are in discussions with a few brands about that and it’s looking good. We are planning video launches and some events of our own mainly the AREA CODE PARTIES also look out for 985 at WOOD STOCK.

·        What’s 958 life motto?:

 WORK SMART AND DO IT LIKE NO OTHER , and that’s why 985 will always have that thing that makes people go ‘’ that’s 985”

·        Words of advice would you give to the young upcoming artists? :

 WORK SMART AND DO IT LIKE NO OTHER that’s the difference between the trend setters and followers that is what sets you apart from the crowdand you’ll need to stand out in this game.
